In its 7th year, Project GODA (Gift of Disability Alleviation) continues its extraordinary journey to bring hope and healing to those in need. From February 17, 2024, to February 23, 2024, a team of dedicated medical professionals from the USA will grace Pakistan with their expertise, conducting a series of life-changing surgeries across multiple cities, absolutely free of cost.

The Magnitude of Impact:

This year, the GODA team aims to perform a staggering 140 joint replacements, 16 spinal surgeries, and 8 ACL reconstruction surgeries. The scope of their mission encompasses Karachi, Lahore, and Muzzafargarh, targeting areas with a significant backlog of patients awaiting essential surgeries.

In Karachi, the team plans to conduct 80 joint replacements and 8 ACL reconstructions, whereas Lahore will witness 30 joint replacements, contributing to the overall impact. The team will also be traveling to Muzzafargarh, which is known for its pressing healthcare needs, and will perform around 30 joint replacements and 16 spinal surgeries.

A Blessing Beyond Borders:

The GODA program holds a special place in the hearts of the Indus Hospital & Health Network’s (IHHN) community. This initiative, now in its 7th year, continues to epitomize compassion and selflessness. This year as well, Project GODA brings a team of esteemed medical professionals from the USA to extend healing hands to those in need across Pakistan.

Led by the experienced and compassionate Dr. Umar Burney, the surgical team comprises highly skilled individuals dedicated to performing surgeries entirely free of cost. Among them are Dr. Saad Khan, a renowned surgeon from Advocate Hospital, Dr. Bilal Mahmood, a respected surgeon from Baylor, Dr. Mohammed Khaleel from TMI Orthopedics, Dr. Haariss Ilyas from Baylor, Dr. Khalid Yousuf, a distinguished surgeon from Dallas Hip & Knee Center, Dr. Ahmed Siddiqi, a surgeon from the Orthopedic Institute of Brielle Orthopedics and Dr. Munawar Ali.

Supporting this remarkable surgical team are individuals such as Andrew Pritchett, who works with TJO implants, Joel Thompson, a dedicated Physician Assistant working with Dallas Hip and Knee Center, Lauren Podina, a Physical Therapist from Orthopedics Specialists of Dallas, Dr. Aaron Hofman, an Orthopedic Surgeon and Designer of Implants from TJO Implants, Jordan Whitman, representing Zimmer Biomet, Atif Ahmed, a Physical Therapist and Company Representative for Stryker in Dallas, Joel Thompson, a Physician Assistant from Dallas Hip and Knee Center, and Dr. Numairuddin Mohammad, an Anesthesiologist from Chicago. As this diverse and dedicated team converges on Pakistan, they carry with them not just medical expertise but a profound commitment to transforming lives and building a brighter future for those in need.

Many of the patients slated for surgery have been on the waiting list for years now, highlighting the critical nature of the GODA mission. The team not only conducts surgeries but also brings essential implants, addressing a dire need for high-quality medical equipment. Reflecting on the impact of previous years, the GODA team has been instrumental in transforming lives. Last year alone, they performed over 66 Knee Replacement Surgeries, 43 Hip Replacement Surgeries, and 20 Spine Surgeries, significantly reducing the waiting list at IHHN.
